Our students benefit from course tutors and a tutorial programme which supports their learning. In addition, we use Firefly (our virtual learning platform) to support the work that we do. We recognise that a personalised approach to learning is necessary for some students which we accommodate where possible with bespoke learning plans. All students are set target grades for their studies and we support students to achieve these. This progress is monitored throughout their time with us and interventions are used to support this process. We have a SENCO to support those learners with additional learning needs and our staff are highly trained to teach all students regardless of prior achievement and attainment.

I am a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered educational psychologist who works with Everton one day a week to support student learning, mental health and wellbeing. I also work at the University of Manchester on the doctoral programme for training in educational psychology, where I am a Curriculum Director. I am particularly interested in mental health and therapeutic interventions; supporting student motivation; the transition from adolescence to adulthood; and the role of sport and exercise in promoting wellbeing.
I qualified as a Science teacher with Liverpool Hope University in 2007 after first having a successful legal career. My first posts were in mainstream settings. Whilst I progressed to Second in Science I was always drawn to those who struggled to engage in education. This led to a position as Head of Science at a Pupil Referral Unit which had a number of students with unmet SEN needs which I was keen to identify and remedy. It was a natural progression to join Everton Football College in 2016 as Head of Science and SENCo Lead. I completed the Masters Level Course – National Award in Special Education Needs Co-ordination with Liverpool John Moores University in November 2018. Since then I have tried to ensure that Everton Football College deliver best practice and High Quality Teaching to its SEN students.
